Many European countries have signed up to the European Union Declaration on Human Trafficking. It has placed pressure on frontline services like police, border control agencies and local social services to identify potential victims of Trafficking. There has been a severe lack of tools provided to the agencies to make such an expectation achievable which is why CBI along with other partners have spent a year developing an Animation to show children.
Frontline forces frequently have to make a judgement call based on what they see in front of them, and all too frequently trafficked children are viewed as illegal migrants. This means they are placed in inadequate protective care and often fall back into the hands of their exploiters. To identify a child as potentially trafficked means that immediate multi agency child protection procedures are put in place, because the child is a victim of a crime, not a criminal.
We believe the animation will close this gap and improve intervention and safety for child victims of trafficking.
